Line Rider..good fun.

Brisbane Writers' Festival

I went to 2 sessions of the Brisbane Writers' Festival last night:

The standout was Nick Earls' terrific interview of (conversation with) Jasper Fforde.

Fforde revealed that his many sub-plots are deliberate, as are his "Easter Eggs" and seeded references to things that may or may not happen in the future. We also found out how a focus-puller on movies became a novelist.

The other session was a panel on comedy writing consisting of R.L.Stine ("Goosebumps"),
Ian McFadyen and Sean Dooley. Interesting but the format was too restrictive.

Steve Irwin: death stuns a nation

It's not often that news of a person's death spreads so rapidly and with disbelief.

Steve Irwin was a person whose character hit a chord with Australians: a larrikin who loved nature and animals, was successful doing something he enjoyed, wore khakis and had no airs and graces.

And he died while swimming on the Great Barrier Reef.
