Queensland Wind Orchestra

The dedication of volunteer community groups never ceases to amaze me.

Over this weekend the members of Queensland Wind Orchestra performed their  terrific "Play that Funky Music" program twice: firstly at the Sunshine Coast on Saturday and secondly at Stuartholme on Sunday.

This orchestra has a wide repertoire and calls in specialists and restructures the band as needed. And the sound and quality is great! Conductor Craig Dabelstein has great energy.

Loved Michael Torke's Adjustable Wrench and Allen Vizzutti's American Jazz Suite.

Next up the QWO perform an Elgar special program as part of the 4MBS Music Festival.

Tropfest 2007

We recently saw the finalists for this year's Tropfest short film competition and enjoyed them. (via a free DVD distributed with the Sydney Morning Herald).

The finalists are all online and well worth a look (but you have to use Internet Explorer).

Don't look at the results until you've seen them all...we certainly disagreed with the judges.

We liked Between the Flags, Road Rage and Fore!
