Leonard Cohen retrospective

I first heard a Leonard Cohen song when I went to university. I knew it originally as "I lit a green candle" but  realised it was One of Us Cannot Be Wrong when I bought the album it was on.

My kids only know Leonard Cohen through Rufus Wainwright's performance of Hallelujah in Shrek. I don't like it as much as Nick Cave's version but I like Jeff Buckley's version too. And here's Leonard Cohen himself (plus choir).

There is a reverential and sensitive interview of Cohen on NPR bringing us up to date with his latest work. It features poetry readings and some music as well as some reflections by Cohen. Well worth listening to.

The black dog of depression hunts professionals

I have previously talked about lawyers being unhappy.

Now there is evidence that professionals and students experience more depressive symptoms than the general population.

Former WA Premier Geoff Gallop has become an advocate for discussion of public depression.
