Diversions and passions of an Australian business lawyer outside legal practice

Blogs and marketing

ethicalEsq today has a great summary of a discussion about the commercial worth of blogs, why people write them and whether commercial blog providers' "ghost-written" content adds value.

I have to agree with Craig Williams comments. Blogging is worthwhile: you get to write, you get to learn, you self-publish without editorial interference and delays, you demonstrate to clients and potential clients your enthusiasm and expertise.

Knowledge Management and blogs

beSpacific has pointed me to Making sense of weblogs in the intranet (What they are, why people are using them, making them useful for knowledge management) an insightful and practical 52 page presentation by Michael Angeles.

He shows how k-logs are used at Lucent in different ways by different users to achieve knowledge sharing.

It just shows that technology should not be strictly controlled and people should be allowed to use it to suit their needs.

Blogging Research

Both LawTech Guru and beSpacific refer to this article "Blogging is Blooming".

There's absolutely no doubt the combination of easy self-publishing and community are attractive to users.

Blogging Community in action

Thank you to John Quiggin for alerting me to this post at Crooked Timber.

I'm more than happy to endorse the entry in Wikipedia under Jew in preference to the previous top-ranked anti-semitic site.

PS This article by Rick Klau in Law Practice Magazine explains the term "wiki".

Blogging

This is my first experiment with Typepad.

My previous blogs have all been with Blogger. Blogger seemed easier to set up and manage but Typepad has extras such as Comments (but I've noted the debate whether they should be turned on or off).

In any case I've decided to keep my personal blog separate on Typepad .

My experience and the blogging scene in Australia has been noted in Lawyers Weekly Australia.
